Biography
Al Reinert was an American journalist, screenwriter, director and producer. Born in Tokyo in 1947 to American parents, he grew up in Texas, attended Texas A&M University and began his career as a reporter for the Houston Chronicle, where he covered NASA in the 1970s.
Reinert directed and produced the 1989 documentary For All Mankind, assembled from NASA Apollo footage. He co-wrote the screenplay for the 1995 film Apollo 13 with William Broyles Jr., earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also contributed to the 1998 HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon and co-wrote the screenplay for Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001).
Reinert died of cancer on 31 December 2018 at his home in Wimberley, Texas.
