Biography
Alaa Safi is a French actor, director and producer. Born on 26 September 1984 in Champigny-sur-Marne, he was the world champion in Tae Kwon Do at the age of 18. He trained at the Atelier International de Théâtre Blanche Salant et Paul Weaver and later with Jack Waltzer.
Safi began his screen career as an action performer. His first major role was as Vulture opposite Jackie Chan in Chinese Zodiac (2012). He has since appeared in Doctor Strange (2016) as the Tall Zealot, American Assassin (2017), The Mauritanian (2021), Death on the Nile (2022) and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023) as Rahim. He is a series regular on The Chosen (2019–) as Simon Z.
Safi began directing with the short film Chrysalis (2020), followed by Coming Home (2023); both won awards at American film festivals.
