Biography
Alain Boublil (born 5 March 1941) is a French lyricist and librettist. Born in Tunis, he began his career in music publishing and writing French pop songs before turning to musical theatre.
He is best known for his long collaboration with composer Claude-Michel Schönberg. Their works include the rock opera La Révolution Française (1973), Les Misérables (1980) and Miss Saigon (1989). Boublil contributed to the book and lyrics for the stage musicals and co-wrote material for the 2012 film adaptation of Les Misérables.
The English-language production of Les Misérables, produced by Cameron Mackintosh, opened in London in 1985 and became the longest-running musical in West End history. Boublil received an Academy Award nomination for the song "Suddenly" from the 2012 film.
