Biography
Alain Levent (15 September 1934 – 28 August 2008) was a French cinematographer and film director. Born in Paris, he began his career in the late 1950s as a camera assistant on films including The 400 Blows (1959). He worked as camera operator or co-cinematographer on Cléo from 5 to 7 (1962), directed by Agnès Varda.
Levent served as director of photography on numerous films of the French New Wave and beyond, including The Nun (1966), L'Amour fou (1969), My Uncle Benjamin (1969) and Atlantic Wall (1970). He directed the feature The Bar at the Crossing (1972), which was entered in the 22nd Berlin International Film Festival. He worked on around 80 films between 1960 and 2007.
