Biography
Alan Badel (1923–1982) was an English actor who appeared in theatre, film, radio and television. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and began his career on the stage with the Old Vic and Stratford companies, playing roles including Romeo.
His film credits include John the Baptist in Salome (1953), Gerald Weaver in This Sporting Life (1963), Najim Beshraavi in Arabesque (1966), the Minister in The Day of the Jackal (1973), Petrovitch in Force 10 from Navarone (1978) and Lord Brackenbury in Agatha (1979). On television he played Father Dell'Aqua in Shōgun (1980). He also had a notable stage career and served as a paratrooper during the Second World War.
Badel was married to actress Yvonne Owen; their daughter Sarah Badel became an actress.
