Biography
Albert Elms (28 February 1920 – 14 October 2009) was an English composer and arranger who worked principally in television and film. He joined the Royal Marine Band Service in 1934 at the age of 14 and served during the Second World War before becoming an arranger for the music publisher Francis, Day and Hunter. His television career began with the advent of commercial television in 1955.
Elms contributed scores to early ITC series including The Adventures of Robin Hood (1955–59), The Buccaneers (1956–57), The Adventures of Sir Lancelot (1956–57) and Ivanhoe (1958–59). He is best known for his incidental music and role as musical director on Man in a Suitcase (1967–68), The Champions (1968–69) and 14 of the 17 episodes of The Prisoner (1967–68).
Later credits include the film Love Thy Neighbour (1973) and work as musical director on The Benny Hill Show (1973–74). He also composed military marches such as Battle of Trafalgar.
