Biography
Alberto Moravia, born Alberto Pincherle, was an Italian novelist and journalist. He was born in Rome on 28 November 1907 and died there on 26 September 1990.
His debut novel, Gli indifferenti (1929), was followed by works including Il conformista (1951), the source for Bernardo Bertolucci’s film The Conformist (1970). Other novels adapted for cinema include those that became Two Women (1960), Contempt (1963) and The Empty Canvas (1964).
Moravia contributed to the screenplay of Luchino Visconti’s Ossessione (1943). He also worked as a film critic and journalist.
