Biography
Aldo Scavarda (22 August 1923 – 6 May 2000) was an Italian cinematographer. Born in Turin, he began his career as a camera operator in the early 1950s before becoming a director of photography in the late 1950s.
He is known for his work on Michelangelo Antonioni's L'Avventura (1960) and Bernardo Bertolucci's Before the Revolution (1964). Scavarda also photographed films for directors including Mauro Bolognini, Luigi Comencini and Salvatore Samperi. In 1969 he received the Nastro d'Argento for best black-and-white cinematography on Samperi's Grazie, zia (also known as Come Play with Me).
In 1975 he directed his only feature, La linea del fiume, which won the Golden Gryphon at the Giffoni Film Festival in 1976. He also worked as a producer on several films.
