Biography
Aleksander Bednarz (1941–2013) was a Polish actor and theatre director. He trained at the National Academy of Dramatic Art in Kraków, graduating in 1962, and began his stage career the same year at the Teatr im. L. Solskiego in Tarnów. He later worked at theatres in Katowice, Kraków and Warsaw before joining the Teatr im. Stefana Jaracza in Łódź in 1989, where he remained until his death.
On screen he appeared in numerous Polish films and television productions. He played the Executioner in Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Decalogue V (1989) and the related A Short Film About Killing (1988). Other film roles include Major Stanisław Bień in The Pigs (1992) and Pigs 2: The Last Blood (1994), a neighbour in Day of the Wacko (2002) and the university prorector in Little Rose (2010). He also worked extensively in dubbing and received several theatre awards, including the Krzyż Kawalerski Orderu Odrodzenia Polski.
