Biography
Ales Adamovich (1927–1994) was a Belarusian Soviet writer, screenwriter and literary critic. He wrote in Russian and Belarusian, and his work often drew on his experiences as a teenage partisan fighter in Belarus during the Second World War.
He is best known for his books Khatyn (1972) and the documentary collection I Am from the Fiery Village (1975, co-written with Yanka Bryl and Vladimir Kolesnik), as well as the screenplay for the film Come and See (1985), which he co-wrote with director Elem Klimov. Adamovich also co-authored The Blockade Book (1979) with Daniil Granin.
He served as a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus and was active in democratic and human rights causes in the later Soviet period.
