Biography
Alexander Grasshoff (also credited as Alex Grasshoff) was an American documentary filmmaker and television director. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in cinema and began his career in the mail room at Paramount Pictures in 1951, later working as an editor.
He directed the documentary Young Americans (1967), which won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature that was later revoked on eligibility grounds; he received two further Oscar nominations for The Really Big Family (1966) and Journey to the Outer Limits (1973). Grasshoff also directed Future Shock (1972) and the award-winning television film The Wave (1981). His television credits include episodes of The Rockford Files (1974), Kolchak: The Night Stalker (1974) and other series in the 1970s and early 1980s. He died in Los Angeles in 2008.
