Biography
Ali Hughes is a British screenwriter and director. He studied screenwriting at MetFilm School, completing an MA.
Hughes is best known as co-writer, with Adjani Salmon, of the comedy series Dreaming Whilst Black. The project originated as a web series in 2018, became a BBC Three pilot in 2021, and a full series in 2023 co-produced by A24 and Big Deal Films. He also served as executive producer on the series. A second series aired in 2025. His earlier credits include the short films The Job (2015) and A Fistful of Candy (2016). His feature script Mignonette was a finalist at the 2017 London Film Awards.
The series earned Hughes BAFTA and International Emmy nominations.
