Biography

Ali Reza Zarrindast is an Iranian cinematographer. He is credited on Abbas Kiarostami’s Close-Up (1990) and has worked on more than 100 films and television series, including several with Kiarostami and Mohsen Makhmalbaf.

Born in Tabriz, Iran, Zarrindast began his career in the mid-1960s as a camera assistant on his brother Mohammad (Tony) Zarrindast’s film Satan’s Temptation. He shot his first feature as director of photography at the age of 23 and later filmed the popular television series Dear Uncle Napoleon (1976). He has received multiple awards for cinematography, including a Crystal Simorgh at the Fajr Film Festival.
