Biography
Alun Bollinger is a New Zealand cinematographer. He began his career in 1966 as a trainee cine-camera operator with the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation. Bollinger has worked extensively in New Zealand film and television, serving as director of photography on Heavenly Creatures (1994), The Frighteners (1996), Forgotten Silver (1995), River Queen (2005) and The Stolen (2017). He has also contributed second-unit cinematography to Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Bollinger has collaborated with directors including Peter Jackson, Vincent Ward and Geoff Murphy. In the 2005 Queen's Birthday Honours he was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to cinematography. A 2008 documentary, Barefoot Cinema: The Art and Life of Cinematographer Alun Bollinger, profiles his work.
