Biography

Amanda Neale is a New Zealand costume designer working in film and television. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Women’s Studies from Canterbury University and moved to Wellington in the mid-1990s to study motion picture production. She began in the art department before specialising in costume, gaining experience on sets including the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Neale has designed costumes for independent New Zealand features and international productions. Her credits include Boy (2012), What We Do in the Shadows (2014), Truth (2015), Pete’s Dragon (2016), The Meg (2018), Adrift (2018) and the television series Sweet Tooth (2021–2023) and Wellington Paranormal (2018). She received a New Zealand Screen Award for Fracture (2005) and further nominations for other films. Recent work includes A Minecraft Movie (2025).
