Biography
Amat Escalante is a Spanish-Mexican director, screenwriter and producer. He was born on 28 February 1979 in Barcelona. He spent his early years in Guanajuato, Mexico, and studied film editing and sound at the Centre d'Estudis Cinematogràfics de Catalunya in Spain.
Escalante is known for his feature films Sangre (2005), Los Bastardos (2008), Heli (2013), which won the Best Director prize at the Cannes Film Festival, The Untamed (2016), which received the Silver Lion for Best Director at the Venice Film Festival, and Lost in the Night (2023). He has also directed episodes of the series Narcos: Mexico (2018) and Sugar (2024).
