Biography
Ameena Matthews is an American actor and community activist. She appears as herself in the 2011 documentary The Interrupters, directed by Steve James, which follows violence interrupters working with the Chicago organisation CeaseFire.
Matthews works as a violence interrupter mediating disputes to prevent gang-related shootings in Chicago neighbourhoods. The daughter of former gang leader Jeff Fort, she draws on her own past experiences in gangs to build credibility in her mediation work. She has also been featured as herself in television programmes including The Colbert Report (2012) and later media appearances.
