Biography

André Aciman is an Italian-American writer and professor. Born on 2 January 1951 in Alexandria, Egypt, he moved with his family to Italy in 1965 and to New York City in 1968. He holds a BA from Lehman College and an MA and PhD from Harvard University.

Aciman is a distinguished professor at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, where he teaches comparative literature. He is the author of the novel Call Me by Your Name (2007), which was adapted into a film in 2017, and the memoir Out of Egypt (1995), which received a Whiting Award. Other works include the novels Find Me (2019) and Enigma Variations (2017).
