Biography
André Téchiné is a French film director and screenwriter. Born on 13 March 1943 in Valence-d'Agen, Tarn-et-Garonne, he began as a film critic for Cahiers du cinéma in the mid-1960s before moving into directing.
His early features include Paulina s'en va (1969) and Souvenirs d'en France (1975). He achieved wider recognition with Rendez-vous (1985), which won him the Best Director award at Cannes, and Hôtel des Amériques (1981).
Wild Reeds (1994), for which he also wrote the screenplay, won four César Awards including Best Film and Best Director. Later works include My Favorite Season (1993), The Witnesses (2007), Being 17 (2016) and Farewell to the Night (2019). He has maintained a steady output of features into the 2020s.
