Biography
Andrew Tsao is an American television, film and theatre director and producer. He earned an MFA in fine arts from the California Institute of the Arts in 1990. He began his career in regional theatre and off-Broadway, serving as resident director of the Indiana Repertory Theatre (1992–1995) and artistic director of the New Harmony Project before moving to Los Angeles in 1995.
In television he directed episodes of numerous prime-time series, including Friends (1999), Home Improvement (1996–1999), Sabrina, the Teenage Witch (1996–2001), The Tick (2001), George Lopez (2002–2003), Phil of the Future (2004) and Wizards of Waverly Place (2007–2008). He also produced the NBC sitcom Working (1997–1999). Tsao contributed story and dialogue to the feature film Mahjong (1996) and has directed stage productions and short films.
