Biography
Andy Bienen is a screenwriter and educator. He co-wrote the screenplay for the film Boys Don't Cry (1999) with director Kimberly Peirce. The film received an Academy Award for Best Actress and was added to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 2019.
Bienen holds an MFA in Film from Columbia University’s School of the Arts. He teaches screenwriting at Columbia and has also taught at New York University, the New School and La Femis in Paris. His other credits include the story for Yellow Rose (2019) and work as a story consultant on Toe to Toe (2009). He has also published short fiction, including “Fort Wilderness” in Ploughshares in 2018.
