Biography
Andy Kaufman (born Andrew Geoffrey Kaufman) was an American actor, entertainer and performance artist. He was born in New York City on 17 January 1949 and died in Los Angeles on 16 May 1984. He is best known for playing the character Latka Gravas in the television series Taxi (1978–1983).
Kaufman developed his Foreign Man character in the early 1970s and first gained wider attention with appearances on Saturday Night Live from 1975. He studied television at Grahm Junior College in Boston. His other credits include the films In God We Trust (1980) and Heartbeeps (1981), as well as stage performances and a period as a professional wrestler.
