Biography
Ángel Fernández-Santos was a Spanish screenwriter and film critic. Born in Los Cerralbos, Toledo, in 1934, he studied briefly at the Escuela Oficial de Cine in Madrid before being expelled for his left-wing, anti-Francoist views. He later worked as a critic for publications including Nuestro Cine, Diario 16 and El País, where he wrote from 1982 until his death.
He co-wrote the screenplay for Víctor Erice’s The Spirit of the Beehive (1973) with the director. Fernández-Santos also contributed scripts to films directed by Francisco Regueiro, among them Las bodas de Blanca (1975) and Padre nuestro (1985). He died in Madrid on 6 July 2004.
