Biography
Angela Winkler is a German actress. Born on 22 January 1944 in Templin, she trained first as a medical technologist in Stuttgart before studying acting in Munich with Ernst Fritz Fürbringer. She began her career in theatre, joining the Berliner Schaubühne ensemble from 1971 to 1978 after early stage work in Kassel and other venues.
Her film roles include the lead in The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum (1975), for which she received the Deutscher Filmpreis, and Agnes Matzerath in Volker Schlöndorff's The Tin Drum (1979). Later credits encompass Benny's Video (1992), Clouds of Sils Maria (2014), Dark (2017) and Suspiria (2018). She has maintained a primary focus on theatre throughout her career.
