Biography

Anna Sawai is a Japanese actress and singer. Born on 11 June 1992 in Wellington, New Zealand, she moved to Japan with her family at the age of 10. She made her acting debut at age 11 in a 2004 television production of Annie and appeared in the 2009 film Ninja Assassin.

Sawai was a lead vocalist in the Japanese girl group FAKY from 2013 to 2018. She returned to acting with a role in the series Giri/Haji (2019) and gained international recognition for her performances in F9 (2021), Pachinko (2022–) as Naomi, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023–), and Shōgun (2024) as Toda Mariko. For the latter she received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She is also set to appear in the film How to Rob a Bank (2026).
