Biography
Anne Beatts was an American comedy writer and screenwriter. She studied at McGill University before beginning her career writing for National Lampoon magazine.
She joined the original writing staff of Saturday Night Live in 1975 and remained until 1980, often collaborating with Rosie Shuster on sketches including the recurring “Nerds” series. Beatts later created the CBS sitcom Square Pegs (1982), which starred Sarah Jessica Parker, and wrote an episode of Murphy Brown (1991). She also produced the first season of A Different World and contributed to the Saturday Night Live 25th anniversary special.
Beatts received Emmy nominations for her work on Saturday Night Live and won a Writers Guild of America Award for the 1999 reunion special. She taught screenwriting at Chapman University and other institutions later in her career.
