Biography
Annette O'Toole is an American actress and singer. Born Annette Toole on 1 April 1952 in Houston, Texas, she began dance lessons at the age of three and moved to Los Angeles with her mother at thirteen. She made her television debut as a child and gained early acting credits in series including My Three Sons, Gunsmoke and Hawaii Five-O.
O'Toole is known for her role as Martha Kent in the television series Smallville (2001–2011), appearing as a main cast member for the first six seasons and in guest appearances thereafter. Earlier, she played Lana Lang in Superman III (1983). Other notable credits include adult Beverly Marsh in the 1990 miniseries adaptation of Stephen King's It, Lisa Bridges in Nash Bridges and a role in 48 Hrs. (1982).
She received an Emmy nomination for portraying Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy in the 1990 miniseries The Kennedys of Massachusetts. O'Toole has been married to actor Michael McKean since 1999; the pair collaborated on the 2003 film A Mighty Wind.
