Biography
Annie Symons is a British costume designer. Born in Edinburgh in 1960, she was taught to sew by her mother and developed an interest in costumes while at school. After attending the National Youth Theatre, she studied fine art at Hornsey Art College. She later worked with Sandy Powell as an assistant on Derek Jarman's Caravaggio (1986).
Symons has designed costumes for films including King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death (2014), My Policeman (2022), Love Again (2023) and Saving Grace (2000), and for television series such as Dracula (2013), The Third Day (2020), Great Expectations (2011), Mary & George (2024) and Down Cemetery Road (2025).
Her credits include period dramas and contemporary productions. She won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Costumes for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special for Great Expectations, along with RTS Awards and a BAFTA Television Craft Award for Worried About the Boy (2010).
