Biography
Anthony Coburn was an Australian television writer and producer who spent much of his career in the United Kingdom. Born in Melbourne in 1927, he moved to Britain around 1950 and joined the BBC as a staff writer. He is best known for writing the first Doctor Who serial, An Unearthly Child, which was broadcast in 1963.
Coburn wrote for other BBC series including Maigret and Dr Finlay's Casebook in 1963, and adapted The Children of the New Forest for television in 1964. As a producer he worked on series such as The Borderers and Warship. He died in Kent in 1977.
