Biography
Anthony Ray (24 November 1937 – 29 June 2018) was an American actor, assistant director, producer and production manager. Born in Washington, D.C., he was the son of director Nicholas Ray and trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. He began his career as an actor, appearing in films such as Shadows (1958) and Men in War (1957), and later worked extensively as an assistant director on titles including Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969), Cactus Flower (1969) and Harry and Tonto (1974).
Ray served as producer on several Paul Mazursky films, including Next Stop, Greenwich Village (1976) and An Unmarried Woman (1978), for which he shared an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. He also worked as executive producer on The Rose (1979) and held production management roles on films such as Freebie and the Bean (1974) and Turk 182! (1985). He was executive in charge of East Coast production for 20th Century Fox and later taught at film workshops in Maine.
