Biography
Ardel Wray (née Mockbee) was an American screenwriter and story editor. Born in Spokane, Washington, on 28 October 1907, she was the daughter of actress Virginia Brissac and had a stepfather who was a film director. She entered the industry in the early 1930s as a story analyst.
Wray is best known for her work with producer Val Lewton at RKO in the 1940s. Her credits include the screenplay for I Walked with a Zombie (1943, co-written with Curt Siodmak), the screenplay for The Leopard Man (1943), and the screenplay for Isle of the Dead (1945). She also contributed to The Falcon and the Co-eds (1943) and Youth Runs Wild (1944).
In a later career in television, she worked as a writer and story editor on series including 77 Sunset Strip, The Roaring 20's and The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters. Wray died on 14 October 1983.
