Biography
Arletty, born Léonie Marie Julie Bathiat, was a French actress, singer and fashion model. She began her career in music hall and on the stage in the 1920s before making her film debut in 1930.
She is best known for her roles in films directed by Marcel Carné, including Raymonde in Hôtel du Nord (1938), Clara in Daybreak (1939), Dominique in The Devil's Envoys (1942) and Garance in Children of Paradise (1945). She also appeared as Madame Barrault in The Longest Day (1962). During the Second World War she was imprisoned after a relationship with a German officer.
