Biography
Art Baker (born Arthur Appleton Shank) was an American actor in film, television and radio. Born in New York City on 7 January 1898, he served as a song leader in the United States Army during the First World War before beginning his entertainment career as a radio announcer in Los Angeles.
Baker appeared in more than 40 films, including Spellbound (1945) as Det. Lt. Cooley, The Farmer's Daughter (1947) and Impact (1949). He also narrated the 1943 Walt Disney documentary Victory Through Air Power. On radio he hosted People Are Funny and created Art Baker's Notebook; on television he hosted the long-running You Asked for It from 1950. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his work in radio and television. Baker died in Los Angeles on 26 August 1966.
