Biography
Arthur William Byron was an American actor who appeared in films from 1932 to 1937. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of actors Oliver Doud Byron and Kate Crehan, and a nephew of stage actress Ada Rehan.
Byron began his stage career at the age of 17 with his father's company in 1889. He performed in more than 300 plays and worked with actors including Maxine Elliott, Ethel Barrymore, John Gielgud and Katharine Cornell. He was a founder and president of the Actors' Equity Association.
His film roles include Sir Joseph Whemple in The Mummy (1932), Spencer in The Whole Town's Talking (1935), Mr Erickson in The Prisoner of Shark Island (1936) and Baring in The House of Rothschild (1934). He died in Hollywood in 1943.
