Biography
Arthur Ibbetson was a British cinematographer. Born on 8 September 1922 in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, he began his career as a child actor in 1935 before working as a camera operator and assistant on films including Moby Dick (1956). He became a director of photography with The Horse's Mouth (1958).
His credits include Where Eagles Dare (1968), Anne of the Thousand Days (1969), The Railway Children (1970), Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971), The Medusa Touch (1978) and The Bounty (1984). He also photographed television productions such as Little Lord Fauntleroy (1980) and Witness for the Prosecution (1982). Ibbetson was nominated for an Academy Award for Anne of the Thousand Days and won an Emmy Award for Little Lord Fauntleroy. He died on 19 October 1997 in Hillingdon, London.
