Biography

Artus de Penguern, also credited as Arthur de Penguern, was a French actor, writer and director. Born on 13 March 1957 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, he trained at the Cours Simon and the Conservatoire libre du cinéma français. He began his career in the late 1970s with stage work and early television and film roles, and remained active until his death on 14 May 2013 in Paris.

He is known for playing Hipolito in Amélie (2001). Other notable appearances include roles in Frantic (1988), Henry & June (1990), Les Misérables (2000), Gregoire Moulin vs. Humanity (2001, which he also wrote and directed), Saint-Jacques… La Mecque (2005), The Dinner Guest (2007) and Agathe Cléry (2008). He directed several short films and the feature La clinique de l'amour! (2012), and contributed to radio.
