Biography
Aska Matsumiya is a Japanese composer and producer based in Los Angeles. She began playing piano at the age of three and later moved to California, where she played in a punk band as a teenager before pursuing composition for film, television and advertising.
Matsumiya has scored the HBO series Betty (2020–2021), a collaboration with director Crystal Moselle that followed their work together on the feature Skate Kitchen (2018). Her other film scores include The Wolfpack (2015), Selah and the Spades (2019), 37 Seconds (2019), I'm Your Woman (2020), Bruised (2021) and After Yang (2022), on which she worked with Ryuichi Sakamoto. She composed music for the Apple TV+ series Home (2022) and won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Direction and Composition in 2023.
She has also created scores and music for advertising campaigns for brands including Porsche, Chanel, Hermès, Miu Miu and Prada, and contributed a song to Spike Jonze’s short film I'm Here (2010).
