Biography
Avril Evans is a British director of film and television drama. She previously worked for nearly a decade as a promo director at the BBC, winning awards for her campaigns, before transitioning to scripted work.
She directed an episode of the BBC series Call the Midwife (series 13, episode 2, 2024). Other television credits include five episodes of Channel 4's Hollyoaks (2022–2023, including the Christmas block) and second unit direction on Doctor Who. Her short films Playground (2008) and Famous Last Words (2007) screened at the London Film Festival and Berlinale. Evans was selected as the first participant in a Bad Wolf scheme, funded by the BBC and Sony Pictures Television, to address the under-representation of women of colour in directing.
