Biography

Aylin Tezel is a German actress, writer and director. Born in Bünde in 1983, she trained at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin before leaving to take on screen roles. She had her breakthrough with the lead role of Canan in Yasemin Şamdereli’s Almanya – Welcome to Germany (2011), which premiered in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival.

On television she played series regular Nora Dalay in the long-running German police drama Tatort from 2012 to 2020 and appeared as resistance fighter Zosia in season three of the Canadian series X Company (2015). Film roles include Gökçe in 7500 (2019) opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Nina in Charlotte Regan’s Scrapper (2023).

Tezel made her feature directorial debut with Falling Into Place (2023), which she also wrote and starred in as Kira. The film premiered at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, where it won the FIPRESCI Prize.
