Biography
Aziza Barnes, also credited as Aziza 'Z' Barnes, was an American writer, poet and playwright. Born on 8 October 1992 in Los Angeles, California, Barnes earned a BFA from New York University and an MFA from the University of Mississippi. They began in slam poetry, performing at venues including the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, and published poetry collections including i be but i ain’t (2016) and the blind pig (2019), as well as the play BLKS (2017).
Barnes worked in television as a staff writer on Snowfall (2018), story editor and writer on Teenage Bounty Hunters (2020), and writer on Rap Sh!t (2023). They served as writer on two episodes and co-executive producer on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (2026). Barnes died on 15 December 2024.
