Biography

Barbara Benedek is an American screenwriter. She began her career as a psychiatric researcher before working as a story editor and writer on television sitcoms including I'm a Big Girl Now (1980–1981) and It's a Living (1981–1982).

Her first feature screenplay was for The Big Chill (1983), co-written with Lawrence Kasdan. The film earned her a Writers Guild of America Award for Best Original Screenplay along with nominations for the Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA. She later wrote Immediate Family (1989), Men Don't Leave (1990) and, with David Rayfiel, the screenplay for Sabrina (1995).

Benedek was previously married to talent agent Peter Benedek.
