Biography

Barbara Cason (1928–1990) was an American character actress. She began her career in theatre and local television in Memphis, Tennessee, during the 1950s, co-founding and running the Front Street Theatre. She moved to New York City in 1967 and appeared in theatre there, both on and off Broadway, until 1973, including the original production of Noël Coward's Oh, Coward! (1972–73).

Cason appeared in films including The Honeymoon Killers (1970), House of Dark Shadows (1970), Cold Turkey (1971) and Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977), in which she played Mrs. Phalor. From the mid-1970s her work was primarily in television, with recurring roles as Cloris Phebus in Carter Country (1977–1979) and Ruth Shandling in It's Garry Shandling's Show (1986–1990). She was married to actor Dennis Patrick from 1970 until her death from a heart attack in Los Angeles.
