Biography

Barbara Jo Allen (2 September 1906 – 14 September 1974) was an American actress, also known professionally as Vera Vague. She voiced the fairy Fauna in the Disney film Sleeping Beauty (1959).

Allen created the character Vera Vague, a man-crazy spinster, which she portrayed on radio from the late 1930s and in numerous films and shorts during the 1940s and 1950s. She appeared in The Women (1939) and voiced the Scullery Maid in The Sword in the Stone (1963). As Vera Vague she made sixteen two-reel comedy shorts for Columbia Pictures between 1943 and 1952, two of which received Academy Award nominations.

She received two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for radio and motion pictures, under the name Vera Vague.
