Biography
Barbara Kaufmann is a German dancer and rehearsal director. She trained at the Iwanson International School of Modern Dance in Munich, the Folkwang University of the Arts, and other institutions, and joined the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch ensemble in 1987. She performed in numerous productions, including seven premieres, and appeared as herself in the documentary film Pina (2011).
Kaufmann began assisting with rehearsals from 2001 and became rehearsal director of the company from 2009. She has led restagings of works including The Rite of Spring for companies such as English National Ballet and Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, and has contributed to the Pina Bausch Foundation’s documentation projects. She received the Isadora Tanzpreis in 2012.
