Biography
Barbara Steele is an English actress and producer. Born on 29 December 1937 in Birkenhead, Cheshire, she studied art at Chelsea College of Arts and the University of Paris before beginning her career on stage and as a model. Her feature film debut was in Bachelor of Hearts (1958).
She is known for roles in Italian gothic horror films of the 1960s, including the dual role of Asa and Katia Vajda in Black Sunday (1960) and Elizabeth Barnard Medina in The Pit and the Pendulum (1961). She appeared as Gloria Morin in Federico Fellini's 8½ (1963). Later credits include Shivers (1975), Piranha (1978), Pretty Baby (1978) and Lost River (2015), as well as a voice role in Castlevania (2017). Steele produced the miniseries War and Remembrance (1988–89), for which she shared a Primetime Emmy Award.
