Biography
Barkhad Abdirahman is a Somali-American actor. He made his screen debut as Bilal, one of the Somali pirates, in the 2013 film Captain Phillips, directed by Paul Greengrass. He was selected, along with three others from the Minneapolis Somali community, following an open casting call.
Abdirahman has appeared in the independent feature A Stray (2016), in which he played the lead role of Adan, and the short film Watu Wote: All of Us (2017). He was born in Galkayo, Somalia, and grew up in the Cedar-Riverside neighbourhood of Minneapolis.
