Biography
Barré Lyndon was a British playwright and screenwriter. Born Alfred Edgar Frederick Higgs in London on 12 August 1896, he began his career as a journalist specialising in motor racing and as a short-story writer before turning to the stage.
His first play, The Amazing Dr. Clitterhouse, reached the screen in 1938. After further stage success with The Man in Half Moon Street, he moved to Los Angeles in 1941 to write for film full time. His screenplays include The Lodger (1944), Hangover Square (1945), The Greatest Show on Earth (1952) and The War of the Worlds (1953). He was naturalised as a United States citizen in 1952 and also contributed to television series such as The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.
Lyndon died in Los Angeles on 23 October 1972.
