Biography

Barry Newman was an American actor of stage, screen and television. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he graduated from Brandeis University and studied acting with Lee Strasberg. He made his Broadway debut in 1957.

Newman became known for his leading role as Kowalski in the 1971 film Vanishing Point. He starred as the title character in the 1970s NBC series Petrocelli, for which he received Golden Globe and Emmy nominations, and appeared in films including The Lawyer (1970), Fear Is the Key (1972) and The Limey (1999) as Jim Avery. Later credits included Daylight (1996), Bowfinger (1999) and 40 Days and 40 Nights (2002). He died in New York City in 2023.
