Biography

Barry Otto is an Australian actor. Born in Brisbane, Queensland, in 1941, he began his career in amateur theatre in the 1970s without formal training.

He is known for his role as Doug Hastings in Strictly Ballroom (1992), for which he received Australian Film Institute and Film Critics Circle of Australia awards for Best Supporting Actor. Other film credits include Bliss (1985), Australia (2008), The Dressmaker (2015) and voice work in Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole (2010). He is the father of actresses Miranda Otto and Gracie Otto.
