Biography
Arthur Basil Radford (25 June 1897 – 20 October 1952) was an English character actor. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made his first stage appearance in July 1924.
He is best remembered for his partnership with Naunton Wayne as Charters and Caldicott, two cricket-obsessed Englishmen. The characters first appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes (1938) and were reprised in Night Train to Munich (1940), Dead of Night (1945), Passport to Pimlico (1949) and other films.
Radford's other notable roles include Young and Innocent (1937), Jamaica Inn (1939) and Whisky Galore! (1949), in which he played Captain Paul Waggett.
